Dead Phone Battery and No Time to Charge

March 3, 2015 By Tom Mungavan Leave a Comment

It happens at the worst time. low-battery-icon Your phone battery is dead and you have little time to recharge your phone. You can charge most phones about twice as fast if you put it in “airplane mode” when you plug in the charger.

To reduce how fast your battery drains when you are running low, turn off “bluetooth” and “cellular data” if you can operate without it. Connecting to WiFi for email takes much less power than cellular data. Your phone will still work.

Photive 3000mAh Portable Backup Battery ChargerYou can also shut off any applications running on your phone that are not essential. You can change your email setting so you check for new emails when you request rather than continually checking for email. If you are just using the phone function … it will last much longer.

If a low battery is a frequent or high impact issue, you can buy small rechargeable batteries for $30 that you can recharge on the go. The Photive 3000mAh Portable Backup Battery Charger is the white unit (picture on right side) that I carry. The Photive has a USB port that you connect your charging cable to and then into your phone. My experience is that it works as fast as plugging into a wall charger. Of course, if you are in your car, a car charging cable in the glove box can be a life saver.

How Important is it to Be a “Good Boss”?

March 2, 2015 By Tom Mungavan Leave a Comment

A recent study found that 65% of employees would choose a good boss over a pay raise if they had to choose. What most people want more of is recognition and praise. It is stick_figure_drawing_thank_you_400_clr_6923also true that the main reason good talented people leave a company is because of their boss … even if they like the organization.

So being a good boss is very important. How do you do that?

A short list of ways include:

  • Be respectful even when people make mistakes. Let them know you care. (If you don’t care, get out of being a boss.)
  • Be clear in your expectations and make sure they understand.  Let them know why you want something.
  • Express appreciation for their contribution, even if you think it is just doing their job.
  • Know them personally and be interested in them personally. Don’t assume they know you care.
  • Demonstrate high integrity in all that you do.
  • Be interested and supportive of their personal development.

There are libraries full of books on how to be a good boss, but it is not that complicated if you make it a priority.
