May 2017 – Change Masters President’s Letter
Carol just completed the final conference call for a director in Singapore who needed to overcome some perceptions about being “out for himself”. The client profusely thanked Change Masters for making a huge difference in his life. He said it redefined how he wanted to be for the rest of his life at both work and home. His sponsor said his improvement was a “12” on a scale of 1 to 10. He now has lower stress, and so do those who work with, and for, him. It is great feedback like this that keeps us fully engaged. We are thankful for the opportunities to impact people’s lives.
This President’s Letter touches on happiness, power and politics, strategy, technology, and the context of humor.

Frozen Windows
It was a very cold Minnesota morning.
A women texted her husband: WINDOWS FROZEN ~ WON’T OPEN.
Her husband texted back:
GENTLY POUR SOME LUKEWARM WATER OVER THE EDGES AND THEN TAP EDGES SHARPLY WITH HAMMER
The woman texted back 5 minutes later:
THE LAPTOP IS REALLY MESSED UP NOW.
Context;
It is amazing we are able to communicate at all when you look at all the ways we can misunderstand each other. We always communicate from a perspective that includes our picture of reality. We put what we hear, and say, in that context. This is an example where the misunderstanding [more …]
Governed by Your Inferiors
Many people have negative views of politics, based on a misunderstanding of how it works, and the consequences of pretending it is not important.
“Power” is the ability to get things done.
“Politics” is based on the power of relationships that allow you to get things done.
Politics is neutral. Good or bad politics is based on how it is used and for what purpose. Many people only apply the negative attributes of politics to behavior they see as [more …]
$31,000 Per Month in Tips
A friend of mine was concerned about his son’s income potential with an English Literature degree from a small liberal arts college. His son was a junior at the time. The father knew his son was doing weekly video podcasts from his bedroom, and that he had received some fan mail. What he was surprised to learn was that his son was earning $120,000 that year from advertising. The son now has multiple podcast channels and is able to buy a nice house, get married, and live a comfortable financial life. That surprise came five years ago.
Seeing the Future is the Currency of Strategy
It is now 2017. Today, live-streaming is a way many musical groups and comedians are earning money. The top 20 content creators make an average of $31,000 per month using the Live.ly App, according to the Wall Street Journal. The wide availability of Internet music has devastated the income stream for most smaller market musicians. What if they are able to use [more …]
Tech Tip: Overcoming one of the biggest fears just became easier.
A senior and experienced executive called with some uncharacteristic fear in his voice. It turned out that he had committed to speak to an industry conference with several thousand people in the audience. He would be using a teleprompter for his speech. He had only used a large teleprompter once before, and he remembered it not going well.
He wanted to practice his speech with the moving script of the teleprompter. Until now, that request would have required a teleprompter operator, and some computer software that most people do not possess.

Your Personal Teleprompter
Overcoming one of the biggest fears just became easier.
A recent breakthrough is the ability to use an iPad as a teleprompter, and also have the speed of the teleprompter adjust to the speaker by doing voice-to-text translation. The PromptSmart app has a number of other features as well that make it great for practice and delivery of speeches. I prepared a one-minute demonstration of the prompter. It follows my reading of the prompter text, even when my spoken words do not fully match the script. Problem solved.
